Today we finished up our discussion on the Spanish Mission System. Students completed their guided notes and began reading an article over the Missions System from the New Georgia Encyclopedia. Students were given an analysis sheet to complete while working on this article. Students did not have to complete this for homework but it will be due on 8/29 by the end of class.

Today students took a quiz over the Mississippian American Indians and European contact. We also began to go over Hernando De Soto and the Spanish Mission System. Students should have turned in an article analysis sheet about De Soto's expedition.
Yesterday (8/23) students took an SLO (Student Learning Objective) test. This will be given again at the end of the school year to measure student growth. Today (8/24) students finished learning about the Mississippian Native Americans. We also covered the reasons for European exploration and covered the explorers responsible for colonizing North American for the Spanish, British, and French. Students will have a short quiz over this tomorrow. (8/25) I had student request to upload the notes we had covered so far on here. I have uploaded that powerpoint just in case anyone missed any of the notes.
I hope everyone enjoyed Eclipse Day 2017. Today we read an article about Columbus and the eclipse:
https://www.space.com/27412-christopher-columbus-lunar-eclipse.html There was no assignment associated with this, it was just a fun read. We start Unit 2, early Georgians (Native Americans) and European contact tomorrow. Today students worked on finishing up the study guide for the test tomorrow.
The test covers geography and transportation systems. Thank you to all the parents who attended open house last night. It was great getting to meet everyone. Just a reminder that our first test is coming up this Friday 8/18. I have attached the study guide for that test to this blog post. This assignment is due on Friday. Dear Parents and Students, I had a great first week at Lost Mountain and I expect the rest of the year to get even better! Last week we began our unit on Georgia geography. We are almost finished with our notes over the 5 regions of Georgia and students will be taking a quiz over the regions on Friday 8/11. As a reminder each day students will be doing a warm up assignment that will be posted on the SMART Board. Students are to write these down in their notebook. The warm up questions should be copied in full, answered, dated, and numbered. They will be collected each Friday or every other Friday depending on if there is a quiz or test. Some students forgot to copy the questions this week so I will post the 3 warm ups from last week so that they can catch up with their classmates. They are located in the PowerPoint attached to this blog post.
